The Vaquita
Threats & How You Can Help
Fun Facts

The Vaquita only lives in the uppermost corner of the Gulf of California.

Sharks and killer whales are the natural predators of Vaquitas. Vaquitas eat fish and squid. One of the fish they eat is called a Gulf Croaker. They will also often eat Bronze Striped Grunts.

They are endangered because they are getting caught in shrimp nets and are drowning because they must reach the surface to breathe. They’re porpoises, and porpoises don't have gills. Vaquita are one of the most rare animals on Earth. There are approximately 30 of them left. Learning more about Vaquitas and their dwindling numbers is the first step to help save them. Here's a website to help you learn more: VIVA Vaquita | Working to Save the Vaquita Porpoise

You can also help by going to Vaquita | Species | WWF and adopting a dolphin.
